Real estate developers are building housing inside or next to shopping malls as more department stores close. CNBC reports that apartment projects at malls are underway in Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, and Texas. These developments help tackle the housing shortage while bringing people closer to active retail and restaurant spaces.
CNBC visited the Arcade Mall in Providence, Rhode Island, and the Flatiron Crossing Mall in Broomfield, Colorado to show what it is like to live inside a mall.
