Learn Why Phoenix Became A Hub For The Tech Industry

Phoenix is the fifth largest city in the U.S. and has been a hub for aerospace and defense for decades. The city is an epicenter for tech companies, autonomous vehicles, and semiconductor manufacturing.

After World War II, the federal government mandated that sensitive assets could not be on a coast. Soon after, Galvin Electronics in Chicago, Illinois relocated to Phoenix and became Motorola. In the 1950s, GE from Syracuse, New York moved to the city. In the 1970s, an early-stage company in Santa Clara, California moved to Phoenix and became Intel.

The defense industry also has a large presence throughout the greater Phoenix area. Honeywell, Raytheon, Northrop Grumman, Boeing, and others.

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company completed the most advanced chip fabrication facility in the United States and pledged to invest $65 billion in the Phoenix area. Plus, Waymo launched its autonomous robotaxi service in the city and Prime Air drone delivery service is there too.
