The Hive Fleet Leviathan thought to be defeated by Baal was just the Vanguard. The rest of them have arrived and evolved into fresh horrors to destroy the galaxy. Models
A massive new launch set is on the way, including the return of Terminators! Space Marine Terminators have been resculpted and rescaled so that these juggernauts of death meet their imposing lore. And just in time to do battle with the new Tyranid army! The Hive Mind has evolved and the Tyranid army has new sculpts and ungodly abominations.
Gameplay
Simplified but not simple. Warhammer 40,000 is a fun yet complicated game with a steep learning curve, and lots of strategems with complex army selections. The new edition has changes to gameplay with improvements in turn structure, army selection, morale and much more. Datasheets have changed and every unit in Warhammer 40,000 has gone through stat changes. Now, every unit has reevaluated rules with changes to lethality and durability across the game. One day one of the new edition the rules for every datasheet in Warhammer 40,000 will be free to download or available for purchase as deck cards. Compact and efficient access to rules means less scouring through a collection of pages for rules that apply to that moment in battle. Army selection now allows you to choose your faction, a warlord and the units you want but make sure to stay within your points limit.
Although existing codexes will be retired upon the start of the new edition, the rules for all units will be free to download at launch. Codexes will return to replace the free rules in time but Games Workshop the complexity of the game will not increase.
Notable exceptions are that the Arks of Omen books and Boarding Patrols remain, so bring your space hulks into the new edition and beyond. And there are rules to allow those Eternal Crusaders that have built a mighty host through their narrative games and want to bring their Crusade army with them into the new edition.
New Way to Play
With continued support for Crusade and matched gameplay, the new edition of Warhammer 40,000 also introduces Combat Patrol. Designed to be easy to collect and easy to play, Combat Patrol pitches small preset and balanced forces against each other with the armies made of Combat Patrol boxes. This is perfect for beginners and anyone starting a new force. Now you can begin gameplay without having to build and paint 2,000 points of troops before a dice is even rolled.
